Even though extreme weather events may happen from time to time, their frequency and intensity have increased significantly over the past few years. Across Brazil, atypical rainfall has been affecting Bahia State since early November, storms have recently devastated cities such as Petrópolis and Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro, and floods have become more and more frequent in the Amazon River in the last decade or so. Around the globe, a severe drought in Portugal, tornadoes in southeastern USA, and wildfires in California (USA). Events that caused over US$ 100bi in damages in 2021. These extreme weather events are most probably linked to Global Warming.
Fighting global warming is everyone’s duty. People, companies, governments. According to the UN, to avoid a global climate catastrophe, carbon emissions must be cut by half by 2030.
That is why some companies have committed to either cutting off greenhouse gas emissions whenever possible, or creating offset projects to counterbalance for the release of these gases. And Kaapi is a part of it!
The first stage, started early this year, was to carry out an inventory to measure the emissions of carbon dioxide throughout our business chain. This includes the emissions generated from the extraction of raw materials to the delivery of the ingredient to our final customer, and includes even the gas emissions produced in the employees’ way to work.
After completing this stage, it will be possible to identify exactly which processes can be changed to decrease emissions, and which actions can be taken to offset the carbon emissions that cannot be avoided.
